EWMBAA eZine - Week of March 20, 2008

Greetings from the Community Service Committee

Did you know that students who volunteer 50 hours or more during their 3 years at Haas will be Haas Community Service Fellows and will receive special mention at commencement?

Becoming a Haas Fellow is a great way to give back to the community, network with other EWMBA students and looks great on a resume, so why not go for it? We’re looking to expand our efforts this year and get the greater Haas community involved. Our outreach will include events with Haas Faculty, Staff and Full-time Students. We even plan to Co-chair some events with other committees to get even more students involved.

Our first event was on March 9th where Haas students and their significant others attended the Palo Alto Art Center’s Family Fun Day. You can read all about it and see pictures of the event at our blog site (http://haasewmbaa-communityservice.blogspot.com/).

If you weren’t able to attend, no worries! We’ve got plenty more opportunities for you to volunteer. Our next two events will be “Dining out for Life” on Thursday, April 24th and “Bay to Breakers” on Sunday May 18th (Co-chaired event with the Social Committee). More details on both events are coming soon.

Community Service Conspirators (a.k.a The Community Service Committee)

Co-Chairs: Ken So and Jenn Elliott

Good Citizens: Abha Bhagat, Josh Lauman, Paigie Light, Steve Park, Uday Putcha, Rossanna Aranibar Schach

Has the Suspect been Caught?

Well, it really depends on you.

Some of you may have noticed the word SUSPECT in the subject line of last week’s eZine. That is a sign of growing pains. And we need YOUR help to debug it.

Yes, folks, this is a community eZine. Not just something Anlei and Ben dream up every week.

Helping is not complicated: just email us (Ben or Anlei) if you see something strange or incorrect in the eZine. Or if you don’t receive anything by Friday.

Better still, email Ben to let him know that you received the eZine. Nothing sets off the good vibrations better than lots of incoming emails on his BlackBerry. Second years, it’s payback time for Ben’s endless spams on the Yahoo mailing list!

eZine content is also not mandated from up high. All of you are invited to send us stuff to include in the eZine: births, marriages, parties, new drinking spots, job openings, project surveys, “Oh Sh*t!” award nominations etc etc

Reply to this email or you can find our mail addresses at the bottom of the eZine.

UPCOMING EVENTS

March Madness Special (Spring Break Social Event)
Date: Saturday, March 22
Time: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Raleigh’s in Berkeley
Address: 2438 Telegraph Ave
Berkeley, CA 94704
(510) 848-8652

For the first time in Haas history, we have back-to-back social events!

If the end of quarter event was not enough, come join your classmates and friends for another round of drinks at Raleigh’s at the ‘March Madness’ special event.

Wear colors for the team you are cheering for. Cal will not make it this time, but hey now that’s not a great reason not to party. If you are not cheering for anyone, wear Haas.

Please note the change in venue!

Steve Wozniak at UC Berkeley
Date: Tuesday, April 22
Time: 8:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Andersen Auditorium, F295 Haas
URL: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=23987200284&ref=nf

This free event is provisionally scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 8:00 PM at Andersen Auditorium, F295.

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and a Berkeley alumnus, is coming to Cal! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the guy who helped launch personal computing and an iconic company and was inducted into the Inventor's Hall of Fame. Don't miss out! And please tell all of your friends so they have the opportunity to see him as well.

DID YOU KNOW?

Are you a runner? Or do you aspire to be a runner? Endurance running is a great way of staying fit. Hitting your 30s (as in AGE) is when you need to start thinking about cholesterol and all that fun stuff. Running helps keep the bad cholesterol at bay. Participating in races is also a great way of meeting people.

We EWMBA folks have our own running club, Running Bears. If you are interested in joining (no dues, no mid-terms, no bid points, no project requirements), send an email to Jessica Clayton (jmgclayton AT mba DOT berkeley DOT edu) or Ben.
