EWMBAA eZine - Week of March 13, 2008

Greetings from the EWMBAA Social Committee

Did you know that most students know fewer than 50 of the 240 students in their graduating class? This ratio looks even worse when you consider that there are 1000+ MBA students at any time. Increasing your network of fellow Haas students might help you to land a job, make a sale or even to meet your future spouse.

So, why is it that the EWMBA social functions have such a small turnout?

We want to change that this year and create events that draw larger crowds. We plan to line-up activities with both thematic elements and networking opportunities that build on the Haas brand. That being said, we are a 'Social Committee' so priority number one is of course socializing with fellow students outside of the classroom. We value your feedback and encourage proactive suggestions on events. We will be blogging about things to come at (http://haasewmbaa-social.blogspot.com/).

Our first all EWMBA event centers on 'March Madness' and will be held in Berkeley on March 22nd. More details to come.

UPCOMING EVENTS

End of Quarter South-bay Weekend Social Event
Date: Saturday, March 15
Time: 4:00pm Happy Hour Begins
Location: Pedros in Santa Clara
URL: http://siliconvalley.citysearch.com/profile/1085586/

The first-year students finish their first quarter of the ‘ugly’ semester. Its time to give them a break and an event to socialize. The second and the third years don’t need a reason – hoohah to that.

Please wear Haas to show spirit and remember to talk to somebody new.

Haas Admissions Interview Day – Volunteer Opportunity
Date: Saturday, March 15
Time: Morning Shift (8:30 to noon) and/or Afternoon Shift (1:00 to 4:30)
Location: Haas campus

Come help introduce the EWMBA program to our latest applicants. The EWMBAA Admissions Committee is looking for volunteers to help at the upcoming March 15th Interview Day. The main activities we need help with are providing Haas campus tours, speaking with candidates in the interview waiting area, and other tasks such as parking pass distribution. Please reply as soon as possible, but no later than March 12th to sign up.

Please contact Stacey Fang (stacey_fang@mba.berkeley.edu) or Christopher Lin (christopher_lin@mba.berkeley.edu) if you are available.

Haas Admissions Phone Calling – Volunteer Opportunity
Date: Wednesday, March 19 Training session
Time: TBD

The EWMBAA Admissions Committee is looking for volunteers who are eager to share their Haas experience with newly admitted students. Activities include a 30 minute protocol training section through WebEx on March 19th and phone call conversations that last 5 to 20 minutes per newly admitted student. The phone calls must be completed by March 23rd.

Please reply by Tuesday, March 18 to sign up.

Please contact Stacey Fang (stacey_fang@mba.berkeley.edu) or Christopher Lin (christopher_lin@mba.berkeley.edu) if you are available.

March Madness Special (Spring Break Social Event)
Date: Saturday, March 22
Time: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Henry’s in Berkeley
URL: www.henrysberkeley.com

For the first time in Haas history, we have back-to-back social events!

If the end of quarter event is not enough, come join your classmates and friends for another round of drinks at Henry’s at the ‘March Madness’ special event.

Wear colors for the team you are cheering for. Cal will not make it this time, but hey now that’s not a great reason not to party. If you are not cheering for anyone, wear Haas.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you are a weekend student and are still confused about whether classes are at Berkeley or Santa Clara, you can get the complete list from http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/EWMBA/SPR08SAT.htm . Print it out and stick it to you refrigerator door. At least you will not end up driving all the way to Berkeley for your Macro-Economics finals. Yes, folks have done that!
