EWMBA eZine - Week of April 3, 2008

Greetings from the EWMBAA Alumni Affairs Committee

The Alumni Affairs Committee is striving to create a new charter for the Haas EWMBA student and the Alumni that will encourage greater participation by all of its members. Our goal is to better connect the HAAS Alumni with the current students by organizing targeted events designed to widen the HAAS network.

Programs we are working on:
- Analyzing the feasibility of organizing a fundraising event with the HAAS Alumni
- Assessing the interest of creating industry specific Alumni panels to help fellow students connect with other Alumni.
- Participating in the various Alumni events that are being conducted throughout the year and update the Alumni blog with information on the event.

Welcome Reception Round 1 Admitted Students - Class of 2011
Date: Tuesday, April 8
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Wells Fargo Room

Come meet the newly admitted Class 2011 and share your Haas experience! We especially need 2nd and 3rd year students who can speak about their elective and career change stories. Due to limited space, we are calling for volunteers who can participate for the entire session from 6:30pm to 8pm.

2nd Round Applicants Interview Day
Date: Saturday, April 19

On this day, those 2nd round applicants who are from out of town have their official interviews and the opportunity to take tours and sit-in on classes. We need current students working in shifts to interact with the applicants, conduct the tours, and guide them to classes.

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and a Berkeley alumnus, is coming to Cal! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the guy who helped launch personal computing and an iconic company and was inducted into the Inventor's Hall of Fame. Don't miss out! And please tell all of your friends so they have the opportunity to see him as well.

Web2Open in San Francisco

Web2Open is a free event where you can connect with other participants over your Web 2.0 successes, challenges and questions. The Web2Open lets attendees determine most of the session topics, and it emphasizes participation over presentations. This year, the Open also features a handful of pre-scheduled discussion sessions seeded with people who are passionate about the topics. Do you enjoy having a tasty meal with your friends, family and co-workers? Do you like dining out? Then consider volunteering on Thursday, April 24th for Dining Out for Life, an event that raises money for those living with HIV/AIDS! As a "Table Captain” you are responsible for bringing a table of 6 or more diners out to a participating restaurant during the traditionally slower times – 5:00pm – 6:30pm and 8:30pm – 10pm. We’ll help you choose a restaurant, you gather 6+ diners and make a reservation and enjoy a fabulous meal! 25% of your bill will be donated to Vital Life Services.

2nd Round Admitted Students Welcome Calls

Current student volunteers make phone calls to the 2nd round admitted students to congratulate them for their admission, welcome them to the program, and answer questions. Calls should be completed by June 10 and we typically make 8-12 calls per volunteer.

Another EWMBA-only club is "Haas_Entrepreneurs".This club has a mailing list (Haas_Entrepreneurs Yahoo! group) and members gather after Saturday classes to listen to present, future and would-be entrepreneurs present ideas and talk about past experiences. You can sign up at http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Haas_Entrepreneurs/and be sure to mention that you are “part of the EWMBA Haas program" for membership approval.Again, no dues, mid-terms, bid points etc to join.
